One Nation Under CCTV

One Nation Under CCTV by Banksy

A few days ago Banksy pulled of his latest stunt and the results are pretty impressive. Equally impressive is that fact that he has managed to keep his identity hidden for so long.

Steve Caballero

If you grew up skateboarding in the ‘80s like I did, you might be interested to know that Steve Caballero launched a blog last month. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how the internet and its vast collection of data can help you reminisce about your youth. I’m finding images, names and stories that I haven’t thought about in almost 20 years. Steve’s blog is another nice reminder of old times.

Painting by Andy Jenkins

Here is a short video featuring Andy Jenkins and Eric Koston talking about the Girl Skateboards’ collaboration with (Product) Red.

Pitchfork.tv

Today Pitchfork launches Pitchfork.tv, an online video channel dedicated to documenting the world of independent music. Videos, feature films, concert footage… just the kind of stuff that I am interested in.

Artist Series: Stefan Sagmeister

I’ve mentioned Stefan Sagmeister a few times before, so of course I’m going to link to a new short film on him. The film is part of Hillman Curtis’ Artist Series, which includes other films on folks like Paula Scher, David Carson and an older feature on Stefan. This latest video is about his recent gallery show at Deitch Projects and, although it does come off a little pretentious, it’s worth a viewing.

Paul Rand Tribute by Imaginary Forces

In 2007, Paul Rand was inducted into The One Club’s Hall of Fame and Imaginary Forces produced a short tribute video for the event. I don’t know how I missed seeing this the first time around, but so it goes. Choice quote: “don’t try to be original, just try to be good”. [Found via AdHack]

A Bookstore For Me

Hennessey + Ingalls

On a recent trip to Los Angeles, I stumbled upon Hennessey + Ingalls on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica. I was with the family and a friend so I didn’t stick around, but I could have easily spent a couple of hours exploring their vast collection of books on the visual arts: architecture, art, fashion, graphic design, interior design… the list goes on. As the largest art and architecture bookstore in the western US, they have more than enough to pique your interest. It will certainly be a key destination on my next trip to LA, but this time I’ll go alone and bring about $200.

Modernista!

Modernista! is an ad agency out of Boston that does some nice work for some big clients, but that’s not why I’m linking to them. I’m linking to them because their website is insane. I’m not sure I like it, but it is different and managed to get me to notice. As they say themselves, “Modernista! is not for everyone”. [Found at FAIRspot]
